A couple of years ago at breakfast, my wife, Di was putting the girls over a memory verse from Sunday school.
Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.
Hebrews 13:8
It went something like this:
Di: “Jesus Christ”
Girls then repeat: “JESUS CHRIST”
Di: “The same”
Girls then repeat: “THE SAME”
Di: “Yesterday”
Girls then repeat: “YESTERDAY”
Di: “Today”
Girls then repeat: “TODAY”
Then Karis (5 at the time) shouts out, “AND WEDNESDAY!!”
Kids are wonderful aren’t they ? There’s never a dull moment !
The great news of course is, that Jesus Christ is not only the same yesterday, today and Wednesday, but also the other six days of the week, and forever!
We change from day to day. Our feelings, our attitudes, our mood swings are subject to change according to what is going on in our lives or during that particular day. However, we read the following words in Malachi 3:6:
For I am the Lord, I change not;
It is in the Lord’s character to remain the same. That is Who He is. And that means we can come to Him in confidence, knowing that the One Whom we read about in the Bible has not changed despite the changing times we live in. That means His compassion is the same, His love is the same, His ability to do miracles is the same, His ability to do the impossible is the same, His interest in seeking the lost is the same, His willingness to forgive is the same and the list could go on, and we would never exhaust it.
In a changing world all around us, we need stability. That stability can be found in Jesus Christ (Who never changes) and in His Word which also doesn’t change. Psalm 119:89 reminds us:
For ever, O LORD, Your Word is settled in heaven.
Put all your yesterdays, todays and tomorrows into the Hands of Him Who never changes. Find comfort, encouragement and strength in His Word that never changes.
All may change, but Jesus, never.
